Pre-booked private drivers for anything longer than a hop across town, especially airport runs.
Walking, for most of the town centre. San Juan del Sur is small and flat along the bay.
The beaches are the exception. Maderas, Remanso and Marsella are a real drive on a rough road, and that is where having a number saved matters.
