How the connection works

  • The ferry runs from Ometepe to San Jorge, which sits just outside Rivas on the mainland shore.
  • From San Jorge it is a short road leg to San Juan del Sur — much shorter than most people expect, and the easy part of the day.
  • The hard part is the join. Ferry times are not built around onward transport, so an unplanned arrival can mean a long wait for a bus in the heat with your bags.
  • A driver meeting the boat removes that gap entirely. Give us your sailing time and someone is there when you walk off.

Practical things worth knowing

  • Crossing times vary with the weather on the lake. It is a real lake with real wind, and the schedule is not a promise.
  • Give us a phone number and tell us if the sailing changes. A delayed boat is normal and easy to work around when we know about it.
  • If you are carrying boards or several bags, say so — the walk off the ferry with luggage is more of an event than it sounds.

Going the other way

  • We run the same connection in reverse for people leaving San Juan del Sur for Ometepe, timed to a sailing you choose.
  • Book the return at the same time if you already know your dates. It is usually better value than two separate bookings.
  • We can also handle Rivas itself, the Peñas Blancas border, and the Managua and Liberia airports on the same basis.
